Happies and Crappies

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Happies
It's Friday!
{via sphotos-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net}

This happened two weekends ago! :)

Cassie has all weekend off to read and clean and do crafts!

Mary applied for a few jobs and signed up for volunteering.

We are on day 26 of our new healthy lifestyle.
Not that anyone's counting though...

Crappies
It has rained for Mary for the past 3 days

It has also been chilly; Mary hates the cold!

Cassie has had an emotional and long week at work. She is glad it's the weekend!

Why Are You Naked?!

Today, we choose The Proposal as our chick flick. The combination of Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds is masterful. Their comedic timing and chemistry is positively uplifting, and right now, we could both use a little happy in our week!

{via 1001moviequotes}

Sandra Bullock's character Margaret is from Canada and is threatened with being deported since her visa is no long valid. She then comes up with a scheme to marry her assistant, Ryan Reynold's character Andrew, who thinks she belittles on a daily basis.

They go to Alaska to visit Andrew's family for Gammy's 90th birthday and to prove that they are really getting married. Once Andrew's family finds out their "engaged," hilarity ensues.

You also get to catch Betty White in all her glory, singing Get Low...what's not to love?

The days spent together in Alaska made both Andrew and Margaret realize how much they knew about each other and how much they love each other. You must watch to find out how they get there and what happens when they do.

{Side note: If you love The Office, Oscar is in this movie and is hilarious.}

If you need a little laugh and love in your life, this is the movie for you!
Or, if you just want to stare at Ryan Reynolds in all his beautiful-ness {and a lot of it is shown}, we'll join you. :)
Enjoy!!!

Case of the Mondays

{via Pinterest}

This quote is in honor of my one year anniversary last week with my man. He put this quote on the flowers he sent me the first week we were together. :) It's so true and wonderful.

Oh my gosh, you guys! I want to cry. How sweet is that???????
{Don't mind me. I'm just a sappy mess right now.}

Okay...my words to live by for this week...
{via steffy who else @ blogger}

Since Mary & I started our healthy life plan, I have gained and lost the same 4 pounds over...and over...and over...and over again. It's been very, very frustrating - to say the least. So, this is has become my daily mantra the past few weeks. Mary knows when I get frustrated to just remind me of this, which I am ever so grateful for, and it helps to get me through the tough days!
So, if you're ever having "one of those days," just remember that you'll get a second chance tomorrow!

Somebody Sat On Me Again

Today's chick flick is brought to you by The Princess Diaries.

{via pinterest}

We have no words to describe the love we have for this movie. It is epic and humorous and just down right perfect for a day with the girls. We'll let the moments speak for themselves.

Our favorite scene! Because we've definitely all had moments like it.

And, if you're interested, you can read the books. They're different from the movie so prepare yourself, but they are still wonderful. The author Meg Cabot also writes adult fiction too, and we love those books!!!

#SwiftlyPainted Challenge ~ October 2013

Back in September, Cassie was approached by some fellow bloggers - Annmarie and Jess - about being a part of a self portrait challenge called SwiftlyPainted.

The Simply Swift Blog

It sounded like a lot of fun, especially since she and Mary are focusing on getting fit and being healthy. It'll be a great way to track our progress each month through pictures! The awesome thing about this challenge is that it's done on the first of every month for one year and one month - from now until October 2014. {talk about commitment!} This means you can't give up on blogging, but you also get to make great friends. :)

Mary & I are doing this blog for us, for the ladies who are funemployed, for those who need a break from realtity, for those who need to know they're not alone. Being unemployed is hard, but here on our blog, we try to ignore the Debbie Downer part of it. We want to focus on all the things you can do and love while you find yourself because being unemployed is a good time to do that.

If you haven't noticed, we love motivational quotes, reading good books {see my selfie above!}, being strong women, watching Chick Flicks, and just being awesome in general. We'd love for you to follow us on our journeys through this messy world called life.

Oh, and if you have any job hunting tips, we'd love to hear 'em & possibly feature them on here!!

Cassie and I both found ourselves in a similar life situation. We both found ourselves unemployed and struggling to find employers to give us the experience they all demand us to need. So in between our search for the dream job, we enjoy sharing our favorite books, movies, quotes, and life events. I hope people get more out of the blog than recommendations on good books though! Hopefully we both grow over the next year (not in size!) but in mind. I hope we both find the job we want and are able to connect with other people through this. As a blogger, I struggle because I don't think I am very good at being open. I'm very new to this sharing via blog thing, but joining forces with Cassie has definitely helped with that. {I totally knocked off Cassie's self-portrati theme-Sorry, Cass!}

Also, as Cassie said, please feel free to share job hunting tips and advice! We need all the help we can get!

Baby Got Books

{via GoodReads}

The Five people You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom will forever remain one of my favorite books. It was brought to my attention my freshman year of college. Our First Year Symposium teacher put it as part of our reading list. This was the same class where Cassie and I came to be friends in (one of the many ways we were brought together). This book is a story of an older man, Eddie, on his 83rd birthday. He works at an amusement park, and on his birthday this year he is going to die in his attempt to save a little girls life. When he dies, he goes through a process of meeting five different people. Each person shed light on different events or aspects in his life.

I can't stress enough how wonderful this book is. All of his books are very insightful, but this one is my favorite.

{via goodreads}

Without a doubt, I love princesses. Like, love them.
So, in the wake of reading The Hunger Games, I found this book, which combines the mentality of competition through districts with royalty. What more could a girl ask for?

{via dontcallme-mydear @ tumblr}

This book is lovely and has a compelling story line of a girl named America who dutifully, although a bit hatefully, enters The Selection but wants nothing to do with being selected as the future queen. Of course, the fact that she's secretly in a loving relationship with a boy in a class below her doesn't help the situation either when she is selected as a "contestant."

The Selection is book one in the series. You can read the novella before this called The Prince and book two called The Elite.
